How does an NTI appliance help?

man holding jaw from bruxism painHave you been searching for TMJ treatments in Castle Rock, CO? If so, an NTI (Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition) dental appliance might be the solution you’ve been waiting for.

TMJ pain is often the result of bruxism, which is the dental term for clenching and grinding your teeth while you sleep. Because you’re asleep when the grinding happens, you’re unaware that you’re doing it—and this repetitive action can lead to severe wear-and-tear damage over time.

NTI Appliance Therapy

NTI appliances prevent TMJ problems by stopping the to-blame grinding and clenching before it ever begins. An NTI dental appliance is a small mouthguard you wear while sleeping that creates a barrier for your bite. Unlike with traditional mouthguards that cover all your teeth, however, NTI appliances fit over your front teeth only and leave the rest of your mouth uncovered.

Your NTI appliance helps by acting as a tiny splint for your smile. This acrylic mouthpiece suppresses the tension between your upper and lower teeth, preventing you from clenching them together whenever you’re wearing the NTI.
