Is Nitrous Oxide safe?

Woman smiling in dental chair in castle rockNitrous Oxide is a very gentle pharmacological agent commonly used in dentistry to help a patient relax during treatment.  Nitrous Oxide is considered a safe sedative for many reasons. It is considered safe because it has a rapid onset that is easily reversible, it is non-allergenic, and can be adjusted in various concentrations. Nitrous Oxide is a colorless and odorless gas that is also used in hospitals, and outpatient and inpatient settings. During the procedure, the patient can still hear, see and respond to their surroundings. Nitrous Oxide is also commonly known as laughing gas because patients can sometimes begin to feel giddy or ecstatic while breathing the gas, causing them to laugh or giggle.
