Dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth and offer a seamless, natural smile. Dental bridges allow you to eat your favorite foods again and socialize without worrying about gaps in your smile. Oakwood Dental provides high-quality dental bridges and crowns in Castle Rock, CO, and we’d love to help you restore your smile.

Dental Hygiene Practices with Bridges

It’s just as important to clean your dental bridge as your natural teeth. Here is what to do:

  1. Brush your dental bridge daily. We recommend using non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. Start by cleaning the chewing surfaces, move down the sides making small strokes, and pay special attention to the edges of the bridge nearest to your gums.
  2. Floss underneath your dental bridge. You can use traditional floss and threader, super floss, or a water flosser.
  3. Regularly check your gums. Any inflammation around your implant or supporting tooth must be addressed immediately, or you risk developing gum disease. Keep an eye out for red, swollen, or bloody gum tissue, and thoroughly clean your mouth.
  4. Visit your dentist regularly. Our Castle Rock dentists recommend dental visits every six months to ensure your teeth, gums, and tooth replacements are in good condition. However, if you have a current gum infection or suspect gum disease, we will likely recommend more frequent teeth cleanings. We can also provide tips and techniques for cleaning your dental bridge and maintaining good oral health at home.

Replacing a Dental Bridge at Oakwood Dental

Dental bridges typically last five to 15 years, and the durability of the bridge depends on oral hygiene and bridge maintenance. If you break your dental bridge or need a replacement, our dentists at Oakwood Dental are here to help. Here are some common reasons for replacing bridges.

  • Worn Out or Aged Bridge. If you have a fixed dental bridge, we may need to break the original bridge as they’re cemented to abutment teeth with dental crowns. Once we treat and restore healthy teeth, we can replace the bridge. However, if we can’t repair the abutment teeth, we can replace the teeth with dental implants to support the bridge replacement.
  • Chipped or Cracked Bridge. If you have a simple chip or crack in your bridge, we can repair it with dental bonding material to fill in the gaps and re-establish its shape and strength.
  • Loose Bridge. The dentist can remove a loose bridge and re-cement it into place if the supporting teeth are still healthy and in good condition.
