It’s Never Too Early to Start Preparing for a Healthy Smile!
It’s never too early to get your little one comfortable in the dental chair! The first visit to a dentist can be intimidating for your child, let us make it a positive one instead!
The earlier you begin the proper dental care measures for your child, the better chance they have for a healthy set of teeth when they grow up. We pride ourselves at Oakwood Dental in being a kid-friendly office that provides dental care for our little people and loves to help instill a positive experience during the dental visit.
What to Expect a Child's First Visit
We encourage our patients to bring their young children in for the first time for what we call a “Happy Visit.” At this appointment, we go at an easy pace and make sure not to intimidate our young patients. We will make it fun, and have them help as we count their teeth. Typically we will not take any x-rays during a happy visit, as we focus more on making your child feel comfortable with how their appointment will go. We will do a visual, clinical exam, and likely a gentle dental cleaning.
Importance of Early Brushing
It is important to keep in mind that kids don’t develop the dexterity in their hands to effectively brush their own teeth until about the time they learn how to tie their own shoes. The earlier you can get them used to a routine of brushing at least twice a day, the quicker it will become a habit for them and less of a struggle.
Family Dentistry in Castle Rock
As a family dentist, and even with our own families, we understand how difficult it can be to juggle multiple dental checkups, school, work and getting dinner on the table. At Oakwood Dental, we can help by scheduling multiple checkups on the same day and time or even back to back for all of your family members.
At Oakwood Dental, we typically recommend seeing your child beginning around the age of 18 months for their first visit. This can help create healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Call us today to schedule your family at (303) 688-3860.
